After this idea emerged, an emotion known as loneliness surrounds him in isolated places and at moments of sunset.

ArcanumArcanists are a race in the Reverse 1999 universe that makes use of alchemy, magic, divination, or other various types of arcanum. Each arcanist is assigned an afflatus, which is essentially an "element" that is then weaker against another, and stronger against another. Pickles is a mineral arcanist, making him strong against beast and weak against star, but outside of the mechanics of gameplay, it seems to be entirely vibes based for meaning. This is just to make it so that you have to strategize who to add to a team and where, and means that Pickles is more of an earth-type vibes character. The other differences between arcanists is the type of damage they do, mental or reality. Pickles does mental damage. This is largely a gameplay thing, as you have two separate defense stats (Pickles has higher mental defense than reality defense), but you can think of it as basically elemental vs physical damage, with mental being more elemental style. For all of his attacks in battle, his "weapon" is a book that floats in front of him, though he can also perform in story without that book, so it seems to be purely decorative. The main way he uses his magic is through glowing blue, and his eyes changing color. So, what can he do?
Clarified Topic This is his "special effect", or his gimmick. When Pickles takes no action for one turn, his attacks hit considerably harder in the next. At full boost he also comes into battle with harder hits. I can translate this into roleplay by saying that by spending extra time to strategize or consider his next moves, he's able to hit much harder. Alternatively, if he doesn't have the time, he can quickly act, but it just won't be as strong.
Nihilism Abuse This is one of his two main attacks. He growls, begins to glow blue (body and eyes), and then barks at the enemy. A single enemy is then targeted by a strange blue-glowing ghostly apparition and slammed into, dealing mental damage. His stronger of the two attacks.
Hedonism Implement For this attack, a ball appears out of nowhere and Pickles runs his paw over it. The ball glows along with pickles, and a duplicate of the ball bounces between two enemies in rapid succession, dealing mental damage. For the sake of roleplay, I think it would be fair to say he can conjur the ball for the purpose of this attack only. It vanishes in the end.
Thus Spoke Pickles This is his "ultimate," which means he has to have taken five actions in the gameplay to use it. In roleplay, it means he can't just come out the gate with this, and will take time to summon the energy required. He puts a paw on that floating book that glows blue, and he and his opponent are transported to a dream-like world filled with stars. It appears as though he's running through ancient Greece, and then as he jumps towards the end over the opponent, a bust of himself as a philosopher crashes down on the both of them and deals damage to the enemy. It's very metaphorical. In reality, I think this can be thought of like an illusion sort of spell. The enemy feels as if they're transported and smashed into by the stone bust and dog running at them, and it disorients them. Using this also makes his hits harder the round immediately after, so I'd say that it buffs Pickles' mind/focus as well.
Summary He has some aesthetic, very metaphorical attacks that are translated to slapping his enemies in the face both with magic and the concept of paradoxes, existentialism, nihilism, you name it. His fighting style works great in teams of any assortment. (He's a sub-dps/support unit that really works in any team, and that translates well to roleplay with him adapting his techniques based on those around him and their strengths.) There are pros (stamina) and cons (no thumbs) to being a border collie rather than a human, but it all balances out to him being a very useful addition in battle.
background
In London of the 1960s, the traditional close-knit family gradually fell behind the mainstream, while pets started to play a more important role in the bonding between family members. More and more people went into the bustling pet stores to find a fluffy, energetic new member for the family. Compared to all other pets, there is no doubt that the welcoming puppies were the most popular one. They would walk in circle around you while wagging their tails, rub their teeth against your legs, bark to call for the frisbee or ball in your hand. Apparently no one could resist such temptation.

There are always loners, however, even among the social puppies in the most professional kennel. That black-and-white figure hid himself at the rear of the cage, his eyes piercing through the jagged crimson bars and the busy crowd to reach some corner outside the window which no one noticed.

"Hey buddy!" A pair of rough hands interrupted his tranquility. The owner of those hands rubbed his neck and chin intimately as if they were close friends in reunion. "Look at this little philosopher with deep eyes. You are the most special dog I've ever seen."

He also memorized the face of the man in red and white by heart.
